The Supreme Court on Thursday heard the petition regarding pension-related complaints of district judges. During this, the bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud asked the Center to resolve the matter soon. During the hearing, Chief Justice DY Chandrachud said that as the guardian of the district judiciary, we appeal to you (Attorney General and Solicitor General) to sit with the amicus curiae in this matter and resolve the issue.

The Chief Justice said that many pension cases are very serious. Citing the example of a district judge battling cancer, the Chief Justice said that many district judges have filed a petition and raised pension-related complaints. Apart from the Chief Justice, the bench hearing the matter also includes Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra. The bench said that 'The district judge is getting a pension of only Rs 15,000. Usually, judges are promoted from district judges to the High Court, but they too come at the age of 56-57 years and then they get a pension of Rs 30,000 per month.'
