CBI raids the hideouts of TMC leaders in Bengal, case related to post-poll violence

CBI on Friday raided the premises of two TMC leaders in Bengal. This raid was conducted in connection with the violence that occurred after the elections in the year 2021. CBI raided the premises of TMC leaders in the Kathi area of East Medinipur district of Bengal. A BJP worker was killed in the violence after the 2021 assembly elections.

A team of CBI officers raided the house of TMC leader Debabrata Panda in Kathi Block No. 3. Besides, action was also taken at the house of TMC leader Nanddulal Maiti in the second block. The CBI officer said that Panda and Nanddulal's son are named in the FIR along with 52 other accused. BJP worker Janmejay Dulai was killed in the violence. CBI officers said that raids are being conducted at locations linked to the accused. The accused will also be interrogated. According to officials, 30 accused were summoned for questioning in the post-poll violence case, but no one turned up, after which the CBI conducted raids.

Bengal saw violent incidents following the announcement of the West Bengal Assembly results in May 2021. At different locations, TMC employees specifically targeted BJP employees. For fear of violence, a large number of BJP workers had also fled their homes. A case had also reached the Calcutta High Court concerning political workers who fled their homes out of fear of violence.
