Mahindra Unveils XUV400: A New Contender in India's Electric SUV Market, Set to Challenge Tata Nexon EV

The Mahindra XUV400 is offered in five color options, including Arctic Blue, Everest White, Galaxy Grey, Neptulon Black, and Infinity Blue with dual-tone options. The XUV400 competes directly with rivals such as the Hyundai KONA EV and MG ZS EV.

Moving on to performance, the XUV400 electric SUV boasts a PSM electric motor generating a maximum power of 147 hp and a peak torque of 310 Nm. The top speed of the XUV400 is 150 km/h, and it features three driving modes that alter power delivery and steering feel. The electric SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds.

On the other hand, the Tata Nexon EV Max is equipped with a 40.5 kWh battery pack, providing 33% more capacity than the standard model. The lithium-ion battery powers an electric motor located on the front axle, producing claimed outputs of 143 bhp and 250 Nm of torque. The Nexon EV Max can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 9 seconds.

For the XUV400, the 39.4 kWh battery pack is IP67 water and dust-proof. It features both a chiller and a heater, with battery manufacturing taking place in India. In contrast, the Nexon EV Max offers two charging options - a standard 3.3 kWh charger and a 7.2 kWh AC fast charger, allowing for convenient charging at home or office. The Nexon EV Max's battery pack can be charged from 0 to 80% in just 56 minutes using a 50 kW DC fast charger, or in 15-16 hours with the 3.3 kWh charger and 5-6 hours with the 7.2 kWh AC fast charger.

As for driving range, the Mahindra XUV400 offers a claimed range of 456 km, according to the Indian Driving Cycle (IDC). Additionally, Mahindra introduces a one-pedal driving feature, allowing the vehicle to automatically initiate braking when the accelerator is released, generating electric power in the process.

The Tata Nexon EV Max promises a range of 437 km on a full charge under standard testing conditions. Tata claims the car can travel from Mumbai to Pune, Bengaluru to Mysuru, Chennai to Puducherry, Delhi to Kurukshetra, Ranchi to Dhanbad, and Gandhinagar to Vadodara on a single charge. In real-world conditions, the driving range is expected to be around 300 km.

Moving to interiors and features, the Mahindra XUV400 electric SUV boasts a 17.78 cm infotainment system supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Additionally, it features the Bluesense Plus app, connecting over 60 mobile app-based features. The vehicle comes with connected car technology, auto headlamps, smartwatch connectivity, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs, over-the-air (OTA) updates, connected car technology with single-pane sunroof, leather seats, high-adjustable driver seat, rear wiper, and washer, along with storage in the front and rear armrests.

On the other side, the Tata Nexon EV Max comes with three driving modes - City, Sport, and Eco. The model introduces a new drive mode selector with an active mode display. Furthermore, the Nexon EV Max offers advanced ZConnect 2.0 connected car technology with 48 connected car features. The SUV also features ventilated seats, all-new Macarona beige interiors, leather seats with ventilation for front passengers, wireless smartphone charging, auto-dimming IRVM, an air purifier, cruise control, and a park mode.

Both vehicles prioritize safety, featuring six airbags, all-round disc brakes, and ISOFIX child seat anchors. The Nexon EV Max also comes with advanced safety features such as i-VBAC (Intelligent Vacuum Less Boost and Active Control), hill hold control, hill descent control, auto hold with electronic parking brake, and ESP with 4-disc brakes. Despite accommodating a larger battery pack, the Nexon EV Max offers a boot space of 350 liters.

In conclusion, the electric SUV segment in India is witnessing increased competition with the launch of the Mahindra XUV400 and the continued popularity of the Tata Nexon EV. Both vehicles bring unique features and specifications to cater to the growing demand for electric mobility in the country.
