BMW's first 'Made in India' electric car BMW iX1 LWB launched in Auto Expo 2025

BMW iX1 Long Wheelbase Electric was launched at the India Mobility Global Expo 2025. The company has kept its starting price below Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom). This is the automaker's first electric vehicle which is 'Made in India'. And it will be locally manufactured at BMW Group's Chennai, Tamil Nadu plant. Known as the longest car in its segment, the iX1 LWB Electric boasts a claimed range of up to 531 km on a single full charge.

The BMW iX1 LWB Electric uses a 66.4 kWh battery pack, while the MIDC driving range gets to 531 km. A battery-electric SUV, it boasts just one electric motor on the front axle that mates to a single-speed gearbox. With this, it generates 204 bhp of power and a maximum torque of 250 Nm. The iX1 LWB EV features one-pedal driving and adaptive recuperation. Through which it can charge the high-voltage lithium-ion battery by recovering kinetic energy.

The new BMW iX1 LWB Electric has a sharp front-end design and increased interior space. It is 4,616 mm long and has a wheelbase of 2,800 mm. It has adaptive LED headlamps that extend to the sides. Which comes with cornering functionality and BMW High Beam Assistant.

The iX1 LWB EV has a long roofline with aluminium-stained roof rails. The square wheel arches keep the imposing presence on the road intact. It rides on 18-inch alloy wheels. The rear has a large surface diffusor and sculpted LED taillamps.
