AI Disruption Deepens: Over 100,000 Jobs Lost Across 218 Companies Worldwide
The increasing use of AI has led to massive layoffs in the tech sector in 2025. According to Layoffs.fyi, 218 companies have laid off over 100,000 employees. Intel has the highest number of layoffs, at 24,000. Companies like Amazon, Microsoft, Google, and Meta have also laid off thousands of employees. TCS has also laid off 20,000 employees. Automation has also led to job losses in other industries.
The increasing use of AI has brought a huge stir amongst people in the tech sector in the year 2025. According to Layoffs.fyi, more than 100,000 people have lost their jobs from 218 companies in total across the world. Major tech companies are now downsizing, as after the pandemic, due to over-expansion, the focus will be on profits and AI.
Chipmaker Intel has initiated the largest layoff drive this year. It has laid off around 24,000 employees-22% of its workforce worldwide. Offices all over the US, Germany, Costa Rica, and Poland have been affected. The effort of Intel is to strengthen itself amidst the growing competition from Nvidia and AMD.
Amazon has also eliminated 14,000 positions across its corporate, HR, and cloud units. CEO Andy Jassy stated that the company must operate like the world's largest startup to find resources for AI investments.
