Current Asian champion Jyothi Yarraji won the gold medal in her first competition of the season with brilliant performances. Yarraji set a national record of 8.04 seconds in the 60m hurdles at the Elite Indoor Meeting held in Nantes, France, and captured the gold medal.

She improved her national record of 8.12 seconds twice in a few hours. She clocked 8.07 seconds in the first heat and further clipped one-tenth of a second off that timing in the final at Stadium Pierre-Quinon in the World Athletics Indoor Tour Bronze level competition.

She, however, failed to qualify for the World Indoor Championships to be held in Nanjing, China in March as the qualifying time for the World Championships is 7.94 seconds.
