About 6,500 people, or 5% of Dell's global workforce, will lose their jobs

According to a 6 February Bloomberg article, Dell Technologies Inc. will cut around 6,650 positions, or about 5% of its global workforce.

Dell is now the most recent tech business to announce layoffs as a result. Co-Chief Operating Officer Jeff Clarke wrote in a document seen by Bloomberg that the company is dealing with market conditions that "continue to degrade with an uncertain future."

"We've survived other economic downturns and come out stronger, "In his note to the staff, Clarke wrote. "When the market recovers, we will be prepared." When the Covid pandemic first appeared in 2020, the firm had already announced a similar layoff.

The fourth quarter of 2022 saw a dramatic decline in personal computer shipments, according to industry analyst IDC's preliminary figures. According to IDC, Dell experienced the highest drop in business with a 37 percent decrease from the same time in 2021. PC sales account for around 55% of Dell's total income.

HP had said in November that it would reduce as many as 6,000 positions over the following three years due to a decline in the demand for personal computers that has hurt revenues. Not only that, but both Cisco Systems Inc. and International Business Machines Corp. had already announced that they would lay off roughly 4,000 employees apiece. According to consultancy company Challenger, Gray & Christmas Inc., the tech sector disclosed 97,171 job cutbacks in 2022, an increase of 649 percent from the previous year.
