Two people died after consuming liquor at a government-run bar at Keela Alangam in Tamil Nadu's Thanjavur district on Sunday. Local people told that foam was coming out of his mouth after drinking alcohol. Police have registered a case. A special team has been formed to investigate the matter. Even a week back, 14 people died in two incidents in the state after consuming spurious liquor.
Thanjavur Collector Dinesh Ponraj said that the deceased has been identified as Vivek (36) and Kuppusamy (68). Kuppusamy used to sell fish in the market. At the same time, Kuppusamy also had a shop in the market. On Sunday evening, the two went to Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation Limited (TASMAC) to drink alcohol. After drinking alcohol, they returned to their shops and their health deteriorated for some time.
According to the local people, both of them fainted and fell to the ground. The foam was coming out of his mouth. We took both of them to the government hospital in Thanjavur. Where the doctors declared both dead. Dinesh Ponraj told that the sample of liquor has been sent for investigation, where it will be checked whether there was any poisonous substance in the liquor or not.
There is anger among the local people after this incident. People tried to take the team of officials hostage in the bar who had come to take samples of liquor. Police officials pacified the people by assuring action against the culprits.
Earlier, between May 13 and 14, 14 people had died in two incidents of spurious liquor in Tamil Nadu. 9 people died in Viluppuram and 5 in Chengalpattu. At the same time, 51 people were admitted to the hospital. After this, CM MK Stalin announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to those admitted to the hospital. The CM also ordered the suspension of Villupuram SP and the transfer of Chengalpattu SP.
