SL vs ZIM: Double blow to Zimbabwe, first lost the match which was won, now the captain is out of the ODI series due to injury
Zimbabwe captain Craig Ervine has been ruled out of the two-match ODI series against Sri Lanka due to a calf injury. Ervine was injured before the first match, so Sean Williams led the team in his absence. But now Ervine is out of the entire series. On the eve of the match at Harare Sports Club, Ervine suffered a grade 2 injury to his left calf as well as a grade 1 injury to his right calf. An MRI scan on Thursday confirmed his injury.
In Ervine's absence, Zimbabwe performed brilliantly but eventually lost to Sri Lanka by just seven runs. Based on half-century innings from Pathum Nissanka (76), Janith Liyanage (70 not out), and Kamindu Mendis (57), Sri Lanka set Zimbabwe a target of 299 runs in the first ODI. Zimbabwe won the toss and invited Sri Lanka to bat first.
