Xiaomi HyperOS 3 was unveiled on Wednesday at the Chinese phone manufacturer's September 2025 event. The new interface is based on Android 16 and introduces AI-based features to Xiaomi smartphones. The Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max are set to arrive with HyperOS 3 pre-installed, while the older devices will see it through an OTA update.

Android 16-based HyperOS 3 brings in HyperIsland, similar to Apple's Dynamic Island. HyperIsland shows essential notifications and active activity on the home screen. It enhances multitasking for Xiaomi smartphones. HyperIsland will also show the charging speed of the phone.

It features a 'dual-island' design, allowing users to manage apps and tasks without leaving the screen. For example, while recording audio, users can switch to a floating window. It will also display music controls, calls, charging status, and schedules at the top of the screen.

The new Android 16-based user interface also includes HyperAI features. It includes AI writing tools such as Smart Screen Recognition and DeepThink mode. Users can use HyperAI to change the writing style and tone of text messages and emails. It also supports AI Speed Recognition, which makes it easier to improve audio recording quality, real-time transcription, and generate summaries from audio files.

Xiaomi is also introducing AI Search with HyperAI, allowing users to summarize search results, search on-device content, and receive AI-generated answers. HyperOS 3 also includes Gallery Search, which helps find an image across 10 categories such as food and landscape.

In addition, the HyperOS 3 update also includes AI Dynamic Wallpaper and AI Cinematic Lock Screen. Users can now convert still images into dynamic wallpapers. Xiaomi has also redesigned the home screen with the HyperOS 3 update.

Xiaomi will roll out the Android 16-based HyperOS 3 update starting in October. The newly launched Xiaomi 15T Pro, Xiaomi 15T, Watch S4 (41mm), and Smart Band 10 will already have it. The Xiaomi 15 series, Xiaomi Mix Flip, Redmi Note 14 series, Poco F7 series, and Poco X7 series will receive the OTA update in October and November. Additionally, the Xiaomi Pad Mini and Pad Mini 7 series will also receive the update by November.

In November and December, the Xiaomi 14 series, along with the Redmi Note 13 Pro, Redmi 15, and Redmi 14C, will start receiving the HyperOS 3 update. Older devices like the Xiaomi 13 series, Redmi Pad Pro 5G, and Redmi Note 14 series will receive the new Android 16-based user interface by March 2026.
