Xiaomi Unveils Android 16-Based HyperOS 3 With AI Features, HyperIsland Design

Xiaomi HyperOS 3 was unveiled on Wednesday at the Chinese phone manufacturer's September 2025 event. The new interface is based on Android 16 and introduces AI-based features to Xiaomi smartphones. The Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max are set to arrive with HyperOS 3 pre-installed, while the older devices will see it through an OTA update.

Android 16-based HyperOS 3 brings in HyperIsland, similar to Apple's Dynamic Island. HyperIsland shows essential notifications and active activity on the home screen. It enhances multitasking for Xiaomi smartphones. HyperIsland will also show the charging speed of the phone.

It features a 'dual-island' design, allowing users to manage apps and tasks without leaving the screen. For example, while recording audio, users can switch to a floating window. It will also display music controls, calls, charging status, and schedules at the top of the screen.

The new Android 16-based user interface also includes HyperAI features. It includes AI writing tools such as Smart Screen Recognition and DeepThink mode. Users can use HyperAI to change the writing style and tone of text messages and emails. It also supports AI Speed Recognition, which makes it easier to improve audio recording quality, real-time transcription, and generate summaries from audio files.
