Twitter has made a new announcement regarding the two-factor authentication (2FA) method. Twitter on Friday said it will now only allow its paid subscribers to use text messages as a two-factor authentication method to secure their accounts.
The company tweeted, "Starting March 20, only Twitter Blue subscribers will be able to use text messages as their two-factor authentication (2FA) method."
To make accounts more secure through two-factor authentication, the account holder gets to use a second authentication method in addition to the password. Twitter currently allows 2FA via text message, an authentication app, and a security key.
Earlier on Wednesday, the company said in a blog post that it believes phone-number-based 2FA is being misused by hackers. Twitter owner Elon Musk recently replied to a user's tweet saying that the company has changed its policy.
Last month, Twitter said it would keep the price of Twitter Blue subscriptions for Android at $11 (Rs 910) per month, which is also the same for iOS subscribers.
Earlier the blue checkmark on Twitter was free for verified accounts of politicians, famous personalities, journalists and other public figures. Now any user can buy a blue subscription to Twitter by paying money, which he will get a check mark.
Explain that Musk wants to strengthen Twitter financially by the end of 2023. They have also modified some services like Blue subscription to increase revenue. The monthly subscription to this service for web users in India is Rs 650.
