UPSC Chairman Manoj Soni resigns from his post before the end of his tenure
Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Chairman Manoj Soni has resigned from his post due to personal reasons, although his resignation has not been accepted by UPSC yet. He took over as UPSC Chairman on 16 May 2023 and his term was to end on 15 May 2029.

Eminent educationist Manoj Soni took over as a member of the UPSC Commission on 28 June 2017. He was sworn in as UPSC Chairman on 16 May 2023. His term as Chairman of UPSC was to end on 15 May 2029.
Recently, the Pooja Khedkar case has been in the news but Manoj Soni said that "after the case of probationary IAS officer Pooja Khedkar came to light, his resignation is in no way connected to the controversies and allegations related to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC)." According to sources, the UPSC chairman submitted his resignation a long time ago due to personal reasons, which was not accepted till now.
Before joining as the UPSC chairman, Manoj Soni had served two terms as VC of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University, Gujarat, from 1 August 2009 to 31 July 2015. Earlier, he had completed one term of VC at Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda from April 2005 to April 2008. At that time, he was the youngest VC to become a VC.
The chairman heads the UPSC. This entire team can have a maximum of ten members. At present UPSC has seven members, three less than its sanctioned strength.
