Barring 5 degrees in Bathinda and 6.4 degrees in Amritsar, the mercury reached nearly 9 to 12 degrees Celsius at many places. But the fog remained.
It was 7.1 degrees in Bikaner and Karauli in Rajasthan. Where the temperature in Churu was 0.6 degree Celsius two days back, and it has increased to 9.1 degrees Celsius today. According to the Meteorological Department, this time there will be no severe cold in the state on the occasion of New Year.
There will be cold in the state in the first week of the new year, but from the second week, the winter will increase completely. During this, the night temperature can go up to 8 degrees, while the day temperature is likely to remain up to 21 degrees.
The effect of fog and cold continues in Uttar Pradesh. Dense fog enveloped the capital Lucknow on Friday morning. A temperature of 7.4 degrees Celsius was recorded here. Due to low visibility, more than 15 flights took off late by 4 hours. The situation was such that the Municipal Corporation lit bonfires at various places in Gorakhpur on Friday to save people from the bitter cold.
