SA vs SL 1st Test: South Africa's playing XI announced against Sri Lanka, captain returns
SA vs SL 1st Test, South Africa vs Sri Lanka: South Africa has announced its playing XI for the first Test match to be played against Sri Lanka in Durban.
South Africa captain Temba Bavuma and fast bowlers Marco Jansen and Gerald Coetzee have been included in South Africa's playing XI for the first Test against Sri Lanka starting on Wednesday. Bavuma was ruled out of the Tests against India and Bangladesh due to his left elbow injury. In his absence, Aiden Markram led the team on the recent tour of Bangladesh and won the series 2-0.
Jansen and Coetzee last represented South Africa in the red ball game during the tour of India earlier this year. The trio will replace Ryan Rickelton, Senuran Muthusamy, and Dan Paterson in the Playing XI. All three have been part of South Africa's innings and massive 273-run victory against Bangladesh in October.
For now, South Africa goes to 5th in the ICC World Test Championship WTC points table, although they are still in the fray to make it to the WTC final, with four matches – two more against Pakistan – scheduled to be played in the remaining cycle. Visitors Sri Lanka too have a chance of making it and are currently placed third in the points table, only below India and Australia.
South Africa's playing XI- Temba Bavuma (captain), Aiden Markram, Tony de Zorzi, Tristan Stubbs, David Bedingham, Kyle Verreynne (wicketkeeper), Wiaan Mulder, Marco Jansen, Gerald Coetzee, Keshav Maharaj and Kagiso Rabada.
