Robotic elephant donated to Kerala temple

An 11 feet and 800 kg robotic elephant has been donated to the Irinjadappilly Sri Krishna temple in Thrissur, Kerala on Sunday. It is made of an iron frame with a rubber coating on the outside. Its name is Raman. The elephant is offered during a religious ritual called 'Nadayiruthal' in the temple.
This elephant has been built by South films actress Parvathy Thiruvothu in association with People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA India), an organization working on animal rights. 5 lakh rupees have been spent in making it.
Temple priest Rajkumar Namboodiri said that the temple committee is happy to have the robotic elephant. We hope that robotic elephants will be used in other temples for their worship of elephants. Till now it used to cost a lot to hire a real elephant for worship.
Recently, cases of elephants being violent were increasing. Because of this, the temple stopped this practice. When we heard about the artists making elephants for Dubai, we met them and asked them to make an elephant for us.
The special thing about the robotic elephant is that it can walk. The elephant's head, ears and tail all move with electricity. Five people can sit on its back like real elephants. It can be used in the procession.
Mahout will be able to operate this elephant with the switch made on the tail. The elephant has been created by a group of Thrissur-based artists who make elephant sculptures for the Dubai Shopping Festival.
PETA India tweeted the video and wrote that due to the donated elephant in Kerala, real elephants will be able to live with their families in nature. Elephants distressed by captivity begin to behave abnormally. They want to be free. When they run rampant, they cause harm to humans, other animals and property.
