Restaurants and hotels will be open 24 hours in Delhi: LG approves 314 applications

Markets and restaurants will now be open 24 hours in Delhi. Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena has approved 314 applications. These include things related to online shopping, delivery shops, hotels, restaurants and transport services. The LG office informed me about this decision on Sunday. The decision is also expected to give a boost to the nightlife culture in big cities. In this, many KPOs and BPOs including transport-travel have also been included. Notification in this regard is likely to be issued soon.
The LG has ordered that such applications be disposed of within a stipulated time frame to promote an investor-friendly and business-friendly environment in Delhi. According to VK Saxena, from next week over 300 establishments will be able to function round the clock in the capital.
The Lieutenant Governor has ordered that the notification related to this decision should be issued within 7 days. He has also said that such applications should be decided within a stipulated time frame. According to the report, a total of 346 applications were pending since 2016. Of these, 18 applications in 2016, 26 in 2017, 83 in 2018, 25 in 2019, 4 in 2020 and 74 in 2021 were pending with the Labor Department.
VK Saxena, while approving the proposal, said that the attitude of the Labor Department of the Delhi Government has been unprofessional in this matter. According to the Lieutenant Governor, the department was following a pick-and-choice policy in processing the application. The character of this type of management is also more prone to corruption.
The Lt Governor has also ordered the Labor Department to ensure that such delays do not happen in future, a system should be put in place for transparency and effective monitoring so that the reasons for the pending applications can be ascertained. Its responsibility should also be fixed and action should be taken against the guilty officials.
