Hyundai has unveiled its upcoming new generation electric vehicle (EV) Ioniq 5 and has opened its pre-launch bookings. Customers can book it by paying a token money of Rs 1 lakh. The company will launch this EV of the cross-over segment in a single variant in India.
This is the second electric vehicle from the Korean company in India after the Kona EV. It has been built on its dedicated EV platform Electric Global Modular Platform (EGMP). Kia (Kia) Motor is preparing its EV6 on this platform. In India, the Ioniq 5 will compete with the Volvo XC40, Kia EV6 and Mercedes-Benz EQB.
Hyundai will reveal its price next month at Auto Expo 2023. The company will assemble in India only to control its prices. It is estimated that its price can be around Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom).
The company has said that the interior of this electric car will be made from eco-friendly material. It uses bio paint, an eco-friendly fabric made from recycled plastic and eco-friendly leather for upholstery.
The Ionic 5 is powered by a 72.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that offers a range of 631 km (ARAI-certified) on a single full charge. This battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in 18 minutes with a 350 kW super-fast DC charger. At the same time, after charging for five minutes, the car will run 100 kilometres. However, this charger is hardly available in the Indian version of the vehicle. With the 50 kW charger given in the Indian version, this car will be able to charge from 0 to 80 percent in an hour. The car is also equipped with innovative Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology. This feature allows the charging of devices up to 3.6 kW.
It is a rear-wheel-drive car. It has a single motor which generates 217 PS of power and 350 Nm of peak torque. This car can accelerate from 0-100 km in just 5 seconds. Hyundai has tried to give this car a hi-tech look. It gets LED headlamps at the front and LED tail lamps at the back. Automatic flush handles with touch sensors are provided on all four doors. These hidden door handles come out automatically as soon as they are touched. At the same time, 20-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels make the car look attractive.
The cabin design of Ionic 5 looks simple and hi-tech. The feature list includes dual integrated 12.3-inch displays (infotainment system and driver display), panoramic sunroof, cameras instead of ORVMs with inside display, ventilated front seats and heated rear seats, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting and wireless phone. Charging included. High-end audio speakers and music systems have been provided for entertainment.
In terms of safety, Hyundai has given six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), 360-degree camera, disc brakes on all wheels and level 2 ADAS features like lane follow assist, lane-keep assist, and forward collision avoidance. , blind spot collision avoidance assist rear cross-traffic collision avoidance assist and adaptive cruise control.
