The country's first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru gave a 72-minute speech on the occasion of the country's independence in 1947. Till the year 2015, it was considered the longest address was given by the ramparts of the Red Fort, which PM Modi broke in 2015 by giving a speech for 88 minutes.

Since India's independence in 1947, Prime Minister Nehru ranks first on the list of Prime Ministers who have given speeches on the occasion of Independence Day most times. He has addressed the country on the occasion of Independence 17 times.
After that Prime Minister Indira Gandhi is included in this list, she addressed the country 16 times from the ramparts of Red Fort on the occasion of 15th August.
Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was at number three. He presented his address to the nation on Independence Day 10 times during his tenure from 2004 to 2014.

Not only this, another record is recorded in the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and that is that he is the non-Congress Prime Minister to hoist the flag the most number of times from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the occasion of Independence Day.

Combining this year's figure, he has so far hoisted the flag on the ramparts of the Red Fort on the occasion of independence for the ninth time. Before him, this record was recorded in the name of BJP leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Between 1998 and 2003, he hoisted the flag a total of six times.
