Osamu Suzuki passed away on December 25 at the age of 94, who revolutionized India's car market with the introduction of the popular Maruti 800. Information shared by Japan's Suzuki Motor Corporation on Friday said that he was suffering from lymphoma.

Suzuki was risking to form a joint venture Maruti Udyog Limited in 1981 with the then Indian government. He risked the investment at a time when there was no liberalization. He had heavily invested, showing confidence in India. At the time, India was a closed economy under the licensing system.

Osamu led Suzuki Motor Corp for more than four decades and gave a new direction to the auto industry with his vision. He played an important role in realizing the dream of affordable four-wheelers for millions of families in this country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has condoled the death of Osamu Suzuki.
