Nothing showed the first glimpse of the upcoming operating system (OS) update during the July launch of its latest flagship, the Nothing Phone 3. After this, it was announced in a Nothing Community post that the first closed beta of Nothing OS 4.0 had started rolling out on the Nothing Phone 3. Now, the company has announced that the first stable version of this upcoming Nothing OS will be released soon, and afterward, the rollout will begin.

The UK-based smartphone maker stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that the stable version of Nothing OS 4.0, based on Android 16, will soon start rolling out to Nothing Phone models. Besides this, the Carl Pei-led company has also teased the design of its new user interface. The company shared a video revealing that many icons will be redesigned in the new OS update.

The upcoming Android 16-based Nothing OS 4.0 update will feature a circular flashlight icon with a red flashlight. It will also include a circular Bluetooth switch, a dark mode toggle, a rumored temperature monitor widget, and a brightness adjustment widget, all with circular icons. The company may also introduce some new features. An image was shown, featuring icons resembling an umbrella, a wheel, and a round shape, though their functions have not been disclosed. A to-do list widget with a new square icon might also be introduced, along with a new pill-shaped switch likely to be part of the Nothing OS 4.0 update.

Nothing CEO Carl Pei confirmed during the launch of the latest Nothing Phone 3 that Nothing OS 4.0, based on Android 16, will start rolling out to Nothing devices from autumn 2025. This announcement comes several weeks after the first closed beta of Nothing OS 4.0 was released for the Nothing Phone 3. This beta allowed select users to test the upcoming OS, report bugs and issues, and provide feedback on new features, ensuring most problems are addressed before the public release.
