Lack of Boeing 787, PAK airspace closed; Air India's Delhi-Washington flights will remain suspended from September 1
Air India flight suspension: Air India has suspended Delhi-Washington flights from September 1. There are two reasons for this. First - lack of planes and second - Pakistan. Air India said on Monday that this suspension is being done due to a temporary shortage of planes in the company's fleet. The airline started the process of retrofitting its 26 Boeing 787-8 aircraft last month.

Air India's Delhi-Washington flights are set to continue suspending from September 1. The primary reason behind this is the lack of Boeing-787 Dreamliner planes, as renovation work is underway in the fleet of aging aircraft.
Besides this, this has also been done because the Pakistani airspace has been closed. The airline is owned by the Tata Group and has five flights a week from Delhi to Washington (Air India Delhi-Washington Flight). Dreamliner planes are employed for this.
Air India said on Monday that this suspension is being done due to a temporary shortage of aircraft in the company's fleet. The airline started the process of retrofitting (making new and upgrading) its 26 Boeing 787-8 aircraft last month.
This is a large and detailed program, which aims to improve the passenger experience. In view of this, many aircraft will be unavailable from service for a long time.
This condition will continue until at least the end of 2026. Along with that, the ongoing closure of Pakistan's airspace impacts the long-haul flights of Air India. Because of this, the flights are required to fly an extra distance, and the operation of flights becomes complex.
The airline said that Air India passengers flying to or from Washington after September 1 will be contacted and offered alternative travel options, including rebooking on other flights of their choice or a full refund.
