ICG: Based on information received by the Customs Department, an operation was launched by ICG Regional Headquarters (West). Two fast patrolling boats and one interceptor boat of ICG were involved in the operation.
The Indian Coast Guard has intercepted a fishing boat off the Maharashtra coast and seized cash. The Ratra Ministry stated on Wednesday that the team had seized cash worth Rs 11.46 lakh from the boat. The team has expressed apprehension that the Indian OSV might have given this cash in exchange for the smuggling of diesel.
The ICG intercepted the boat involved in diesel smuggling 83 nautical miles northwest of Mumbai, the statement said. The ship was brought to Mumbai early on Wednesday. A joint investigation is being conducted by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, Customs and the state police. Based on information received by the Customs Department, ICG Regional Headquarters (West) had launched an operation. Two fast patrolling boats and one interceptor boat of ICG were involved in the operation. According to the statement, a preliminary investigation has revealed that the boat with five crew had left from Mandwa port on April 14 with the intention of smuggling.
Recently, five fishermen from a fishing boat in the middle of the sea, 50 kilometres from Porbandar, were safely rescued by the Indian Coast Guard. The force claimed to have received a call about the sinking boat and fishermen at the Coast Guard District Headquarters-1 (South Gujarat Daman and Diu) Marine Rescue Sub Centre. ICG ship C-16 sailed straight for Porbandar after receiving the information. The Premsagar ship's five crew members were all saved by ICG, who also gave them medical attention. They were then transported to Porbandar and given to the Fisheries Department.
