India will have record production of rice, wheat, maize during 2024-25, advance estimates released
Agriculture Production: According to estimates, the production of Kharif food grains in India in 2024-25 was 1,663.91 lakh tonnes and Rabi food grains (excluding summer crops) were 1,645.27 lakh tonnes. During this period, the production of Kharif rice is estimated to be 1,206.79 lakh tonnes and Rabi rice (excluding summer) 157.58 lakh tonnes.

India has produced record rice, wheat, and maize during the 2024-25 Kharif season. These figures have been released in the second advance estimate of the production of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare's major crops.
According to estimates, the production of Kharif food grains in India in 2024-25 was 1,663.91 lakh tonnes and Rabi food grains (excluding summer crop) were 1,645.27 lakh tonnes. During this period, the production of Kharif rice is estimated to be 1,206.79 lakh tonnes and Rabi rice (excluding summer) 157.58 lakh tonnes. According to estimates, wheat production may be 1,154.30 lakh tonnes, while Kharif maize is 248.11 lakh tonnes and Rabi maize (excluding summer) 124.38 lakh tonnes.
As compared to the Kharif rice production of 1,132.59 lakh tonnes during the year 2023-24, production is expected to be at 1,206.79 lakh tonnes during the year 2024-25. It can increase by 74.20 lakh tonnes. Rabi rice production is expected to be at 157.58 lakh tonnes. Wheat production is expected to be at 1154.30 lakh tonnes, up by 21.38 lakh tonnes compared to the output last year at 1,132.92 lakh tonnes.
Estimates also put the production of the millets (Kharif) at 137.52 lakh tonnes and the production of the millets (rabi) at 30.81 lakh tonnes. The production of the coarse cereals (Kharif) is at 385.63 lakh tonnes, while the production of the coarse cereals (rabi) is at 174.65 lakh tonnes. The production of the tur and gram can be at 35.11 lakh tonnes and 115.35 lakh tonnes respectively.
The production of lentils is estimated at 18.17 lakh tonnes. The production of Kharif and Rabi groundnuts is estimated at 104.26 lakh tonnes and 8.87 lakh tonnes respectively. Kharif groundnut production is 17.66 lakh tonnes higher than last year's kharif groundnut production of 86.60 lakh tonnes. Soybean production is likely to be 151.32 lakh tonnes which is 20.70 lakh tonnes higher than last year's production of 130.62 lakh tonnes. Rapeseed and mustard production is likely to be 128.73 lakh tonnes.
Government estimates put cotton production at 294.25 lakh bales (each of 170 kg) and sugarcane at 4350.79 lakh tonnes. These estimates are mainly based on information received from the states. India has three crop seasons. Summer, Kharif, and Rabi. Kharif crops, sown during June-July and dependent on monsoon rains, are harvested in October-November.
