The Railway Ministry has asked each one of the country's railway zones to provide full details about the options in Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) to workers at once and efficiently. The ministry added that providing full details to workers is extremely essential to enable them to make a correct decision about their pension scheme. In a circular dated May 21, the ministry requested Principal Chief Personnel Officers at each one of the country's 17 railway zones to give accurate, precise and full information about each one of the options pertaining to UPS to workers.

Recently, the government introduced the Unified Pension Scheme for fresh recruitment. Even current employees have also been offered a choice that if they want, they can opt for either the current New Pension Scheme (NPS) or the newly introduced UPS.

The Railway Ministry has asked the zonal officials to organize help camps to provide information related to UPS and help in registration. These camps should be organized at different places so that maximum number of employees can get its benefit. In these camps, employees will be given complete information about UPS with the help of HR, Finance and subject experts. In the camps, employees will be able to ask their questions, clear their doubts and if they want, they can also complete the registration process immediately.

The ministry has also said that every zone will have to keep a complete record of these help camps. This will have to include the date and place of the camp as well as how many employees participated and how many completed the registration.

The Railway Ministry believes that only by giving complete information about the pension scheme options to the employees, they can be helped in making correct and informed decisions. Since UPS is a new scheme, many employees are not aware of its nuances. Therefore, the ministry has asked the officials to give it priority and do this work quickly and seriously.
