GitHub CEO's statement: AI will not replace developers, smart companies will now hire more engineers

While there is a threat of job loss because of the ever-growing use of AI, GitHub CEO Thomas Dohmke has a contrary view. According to him, AI will not deprive developers of their jobs, but it will drive the software sector to a new level. He mentioned that intelligent companies will no longer cut down the number of engineers, but will employ more of them.

Speaking in "The Silicon Valley Girl" podcast during the VivaTech conference held in Paris, Dohmke explained how AI is changing the software industry. He said, "The smartest companies will now hire more developers, because if you can increase the capacity of one developer by 10 times, then 10 developers can do 100 times the work." He says that the purpose of AI is not to cut costs, but to enable companies to realize big ideas and build on a large scale.

Explaining with an example, Dohmke stated that previously, the whole team of professionals was required to design a website or web application, but now with AI-driven tools it has become simple even for ordinary citizens. This change shows that now software will not be the domain of professional developers only, but common users will also be able to create micro apps. "In the coming time, the scope of software creation will be very big, from ordinary users to professional developers creating advanced AI systems." Regarding the recent hiring freeze and layoffs in the tech industry, Dohmke said that this is just a result of the rapidly changing nature and uncertainty of the market. He said, “If our company's employees say they don't want to use AI, it means we are not prepared for success.”
