G-20 meeting in Kashmir for the first time: Meeting in Srinagar on May 22 and 23

The Government of India has decided to hold the G-20 meeting in Jammu and Kashmir. According to the G-20 plan, there will be a meeting of the Working Group on Tourism on May 22 and 23 in Srinagar. For the first time, the G-20 meeting will be held in Jammu and Kashmir. After the removal of Article 370, the first international summit will also be held here.
Kashmir University (KU) is also one of the 15 institutions in the country selected for the Youth-20 and Civil-20 meetings of the G-20. The working group meeting of C-20 has already taken place in KU. According to the report, the issue of this meeting was gender equality and disability. C-20 is the official engagement group of the G-20, providing a platform for civil society, NGO and government representatives to discuss selected topics.
According to reports, the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs has signed an MoU with Kashmir University, under which the university will also host events prior to the Youth-20 Summit. Representatives of G-20 countries will also participate in this. Youth-20 Summit is to be held in Varanasi in June 2023.
China and Pakistan are continuously opposing the holding of the G-20 meeting in Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan was opposing this meeting by helping its supporting countries involved in G-20. China had said in March itself that the G-20 meeting should not be held in Jammu and Kashmir. Now after going to hold this meeting in Srinagar, it is believed that China can distance itself from it.
India presiding over the G-20 has already said that meetings related to the G-20 will be organized in 28 states of the country. Under this, these meetings were also held in Arunachal and Kashmir. China also stayed away from the G-20 meeting held in the last week of March in Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh. Actually, China does not consider Arunachal as a part of India and in protest against this, it did not attend the meeting.
