A flood-like situation has occurred in most districts of Rajasthan after heavy rain. Today the Meteorological Department issued a heavy to very heavy rain warning in 18 districts of the state. Meanwhile, the administration has declared holiday for school in 13 districts as a precaution. Education Minister Madan Dilawar has made a statement that in areas where schools are in a poor condition because of rain, teachers can close the schools at their own discretion.

Due to rain, schools have been declared closed today in Jhalawar, Baran, Sawai Madhopur, Tonk, Banswara, Jaisalmer, Udaipur, Kota, Ajmer, Deeg, Rajsamand, Bhilwara and Chittorgarh. Heavy rains occurred in many districts including Jaipur on Wednesday. Kota, Tonk, Sawai Madhopur, Dausa, Alwar and Bharatpur received 2 to 6 inches of rain. Late in the night at Jaipur, CM Bhajanlal Sharma arrived at his assembly constituency to check the roads, where individuals informed him that if the roads cannot be repaired, then fill the potholes at least. JDA officials were also present on the spot with the CM.

In view of the flood-like situation created after the torrential rains in the district, Disaster Management and Agriculture Minister of Rajasthan Government, Dr. Kirori Lal Meena reached Sawai Madhopur on Wednesday and visited the waterlogging affected areas including the district headquarters and took stock of the situation. He informed that teams of Civil Defence, SDRF and NDRF are working promptly along with the administration in relief and rescue operations. People from waterlogged areas have been shifted to safer places and food packets are being distributed to those who have had to leave their homes.

He informed that a quick survey of the damage caused by the rain will be conducted and the affected people will be given compensation as per rules. Mentioning the incident of Oghad culvert breaking down in the flood on NH-552, he said that not only has the connectivity of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan been broken, but many villages of Khandar area have been cut off from the district headquarters. He inspected the spot and directed the officials to prepare a new estimate of the culvert and get the budget passed from the Central Government and start the process of getting NOC from the Forest Department soon.

Due to heavy waterlogging in Mandrayal of Karauli, people were rescued from the low lying areas there. SDARF teams have shifted them to camps through boats. At the same time, 20 villagers trapped in the Chambal river flood in Bhamroli village of Dholpur were safely evacuated by the SDRF team through a motorboat.

During the last 24 hours, the highest rainfall of 155 MM (6 inches) was recorded in Shahpura area of Jaipur. 112 mm rain fell in Kotputli, 82 mm in Pawta, 73 mm in Jamwaramgarh, 63 mm in Madhorajpura, 59 mm rain fell on Jaipur Collectorate, 52 mm on JLN Marg, 72 mm in Viratnagar and 50 mm in Chaumun.

Radheshyam Sharma, Director of Meteorological Center Jaipur, said that the depression system that came from the Bay of Bengal, which weakened and became a low-pressure system, its effect will start ending from August 2. The monsoon trough line is currently passing through Bikaner, Sikar. Due to this, heavy rain is expected in some districts of the state on Friday as well.
