Bengal government approves to prosecute former principal of RG Kar Hospital, CBI informs HC
WB, RG Kar Case: Troubles of the former principal of Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Sandeep Ghosh, are going to increase. The Bengal government has given approval to prosecute Sandeep Ghosh. This information has been given to the Calcutta High Court by the CBI.

The CBI on Tuesday told the Calcutta High Court that it has got sanction from the West Bengal government to prosecute the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Sandeep Ghosh, in a case of alleged financial irregularity.
Justice Tirthankar Ghosh asked a single bench to make all efforts by the special court trying the case to frame the charge within a week from the next date of hearing. He directed that the special court shall consider the list of witnesses and fix a timetable accordingly so that the hearing of the case may be expedited and it may be brought to a logical end as early as possible.
During the hearing, the CBI counsel informed Justice Ghosh that the central agency probing alleged financial irregularities at a government hospital in Kolkata during the tenure of Sandip Ghosh has received approval from the state government to prosecute him and another former official. A report was submitted before the court by the CBI on the progress of the investigation in the case.
Former RG Kar Hospital official and petitioner Akhtar Ali had sought a CBI probe into alleged financial irregularities during the tenure of Sandip Ghosh, which was approved by the High Court and the Supreme Court upheld the order. The CBI had arrested Sandip Ghosh on this charge and he is currently in judicial custody in connection with the case. The report of the investigating agency said that the chargesheet was filed in the case on November 29, 2024.
Justice Tirthankar Ghosh had directed the CBI to take steps to initiate prosecution in the case to assess whether the material collected makes out a case for framing of charges before the trial court. The court was told that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also filed an ECIR (Enforcement Case Information Report) regarding the alleged money trail in the case, which is equivalent to a police FIR. The ED counsel submitted that it has conducted 22 searches and investigations are underway to unearth the money trail in respect of the accused persons.
