Bangladesh Cricketers Threaten Boycott, Demand BCB Director Nazmul Islam’s Resignation

The players of the Bangladesh national cricket team have threatened to boycott all forms of cricket. The players have declared that if director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Nazmul Islam fails to resign by noon on January 15th, they will not play. The Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) has placed the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) in danger. As per a news report, CWAB has declared that if Nazmul Islam fails to resign prior to their BPL match scheduled for Thursday, they will not play. The players have caused more internal conflict in Bangladesh.

According to a Cricbuzz report, this ultimatum comes after Nazmul's recent comments on the ongoing uncertainty surrounding Bangladesh's participation in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. The association strongly objected to the comments, which implied that if Bangladesh does not play in the tournament, only the players will suffer financial losses and that the board will not compensate the cricketers for lost earnings.

Announcing the decision in an emergency online press conference on Wednesday night, CWAB President Mohammad Mithun said that the director's words had crossed all limits. The words used by the board director regarding the players were completely unacceptable to the players and deeply saddened the entire cricket community. Mithun said that the players' group was no longer willing to tolerate such repeated comments.
