Vondrousova beats Sabalenka to reach Berlin Open final, Wang beats Samsonova

Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic produced a shock at the Berlin Open tennis tournament on Saturday after defeating world number one Arina Sabalenka 6-2, 6-4 to reach the final. It will be Vondrousova’s first final since she won the Wimbledon Open in 2023.

The Czech player seized control from the admission with a quick serve and won in an hour and 20 minutes. She broke Sabalenka of Belarus twice in the first set, while she saved both the break points that came against her.

In the second set, the players exchanged early breaks, and Sabalenka saved two break points to stay at 3-2. After the win, Vondrousova said, that I think you need to take risks on grass, and I thought, let's try. I am very happy with this win.

In the other semi-final of the tournament, Wang Xinyu defeated Russian Liudmila Samsonova 6-4, 6-1 in a match of one hour and 15 minutes to make it to the final. The final match between Wang and Vondrousova will be held on Sunday. 23-year-old Wang is the world number 49 player. She has defeated the second seed Coco Gauff in the round of 16 of the tournament.
