Uttar Pradesh Emerges as Third-Highest Solar Energy Producing State After Maharashtra and Gujarat
Solar Energy: Solar energy production in India has reached 125 gigawatts, placing the country third globally. The PM Surya Ghar Yojana is driving rapid expansion in states. Uttar Pradesh has also made a significant leap, achieving third place in the country after Maharashtra and Gujarat. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's initiative is taking solar energy to every village in the state.
Solar energy production is rising steadily in India, and it has become the third-largest producer in the world. A total of 125 gigawatts of solar energy is being produced in the country. Among the states, the solar energy production in Uttar Pradesh has risen very fast. Significantly, the state has reached third place behind Maharashtra and Gujarat.
Indeed, solar energy production is rising in the states due to the PM Surya Ghar Yojana of the central government. The state government in Uttar Pradesh is working rapidly to make this scheme accessible to the public. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is very active in promoting solar energy production in the state.
According to official state government data, rooftop solar plants have been installed in 275,936 homes in Uttar Pradesh. This provides consumers with the benefit of free electricity. Consumers in the state are continuously applying for rooftop solar plants. Considering the number of applications nationally, Uttar Pradesh ranks second in this regard.
According to the data, a subsidy of ₹1,808.09 crore has been distributed in the state by October 31, 2025. People in Lucknow, Varanasi, Kanpur Nagar, and Bareilly are rapidly installing rooftop solar plants under this scheme. In these four districts alone, more than 8,000 rooftop solar plants have been installed. Rooftop solar plants are also being installed rapidly in other districts.
