The All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) has denounced the comments made about Goddess Kaali by party Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra since the India Today Conclave East 2022. The party distanced itself from Mahua's divisive remarks, claiming that she made them in her individual role and that TMC did not support them.
The party's official handle responded to Mahua Moitra's comments on Twitter by stating that they were not supported by the party in any way or form. "The comments made by @MahuaMoitra at the # IndiaTodayConclaveEast2022 and her views expressed on Goddess Kali were made in her personal capacity and are NOT ENDORSED IN ANY MANNER OR FORM BY THE PARTY," the statement said. The All India Trinamool Congress strenuously denies such remarks.
Mahua Moitra made controversial remarks about Maa Kaali
You have the freedom to imagine your deity, Mahua Moitra stated in response to a question at the media gathering earlier in the day. I see Kaali as a goddess who enjoys meat and booze. Whiskey is offered to the gods in some places, but doing so in other places would be considered blasphemy.
Mahua Moitra was speaking in defence of Canadian filmmaker Leena Manimekali, who has faced criticism for using a poster with a smoking-related image of Maa Kaali to advertise her upcoming movie.
Mahua Moitra made the decision to accuse "Sanghis" of lying after receiving harsh abuse on social media for supporting any movie, poster, or mention of smoking.
Mahua likewise urged people to go to Maa Kali in Tarapith and witness what is served there as bhog. It will be interesting to see if she begs her party members for the same now that her party has denounced her remarks.
