Since Team India's head coach Gautam Gambhir assumed responsibility, he has been being criticized all the time. The Indian team wasn't able to do anything extraordinary under Gambhir's coaching. The team lost against New Zealand at home. Post that, Australia also beat India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. In these circumstances, the Indian team was not able to make it to the final of the World Test Championship.

The issues for the team were further compounded by the retirement of veteran players such as Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma from Test cricket. The team is undergoing a transitional phase. Numerous critics have doubted Gambhir's attitude and if he could construct a team that could succeed in Tests. In the meantime, all-rounder Shardul Thakur supported the head coach.

Thakur told RevSportz, "We have always seen him as a player who is ready to fight for the team. Even during the huddle, he transferred the energy to us that he used to bring on the field during his playing days."

Lord Shardul said, "He is a successful player who has won trophies for the country and the state. He brings all his experience and inspiration to the team. There will be criticism, but winning as a team matters. I believe we are moving in the right direction."

Thakur cited India's performance on the recent England tour as an example of Gambhir's influence. He said that the never-say-die attitude taught by the coach is clearly visible in the team's performance. Gambhir will now be tested in the Asia Cup 2025. The Indian team has not yet been announced for this tournament, which starts on 9 September. The team selection is going on on Tuesday.
