Gmail Gets Smarter: New AI Inbox Uses Gemini to Organise Emails Automatically

Gmail is rolling out its AI-powered inbox feature to select Google AI Ultra subscribers in the US, expanding on the Gemini-based updates introduced earlier this year. This new feature adds a dedicated AI view in Gmail that highlights priority emails, displays emails that require action, and summarizes less-urgent updates. It is said to be designed to reduce unnecessary emails in the inbox and help users focus on the most important things faster, building on Google's broader efforts to integrate AI more deeply into the email experience.

Gmail said in a post that it has introduced an AI-powered Inbox with smart prioritization and personalized briefings, which is now rolling out in beta to Google AI Ultra subscribers in the US. The new AI Inbox appears as a separate view alongside the traditional inbox and is designed to surface priority information rather than requiring you to scan individual emails.

The AI Inbox has two sections for its emails. The suggested to-dos identify messages that require action, such as bills, reminders, and deadlines. They also show what needs to be done. The topics to catch up on are updates, but these are not as pressing. They are grouped as quick summaries for things like travel plans, events, and shopping. These are shown as cards, which can be clicked to access the email.
