Team India’s Defeat in Melbourne Ends Shivam Dubey and Jasprit Bumrah’s Winning Run
India vs Australia T20 Series 2025: Of the 37 T20 matches Shivam Dubey has played for India, Team India has won 33 and suffered three no-results. This is his first T20 defeat.
Before today, Shivam Dubey reigned supreme in international T20 cricket. However, his reign came to an end with Team India's disastrous batting display at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Batting first in Melbourne, India lost all wickets in 18.4 overs and managed 125 runs on the board. Except for Abhishek Sharma and Harshit Rana, no batsman could touch the double-figure mark. With the ball, Jasprit Bumrah and Varun Chakravarthy made Australia's run chase bit tough but target was not impossible for them. The defeat of Team India also ended the reign of Shivam Dubey and Bumrah too.
Team India all-rounder Shivam Dubey, who made his international debut in 2019, has represented India in 43 matches so far. In fact, India's last defeat came back in 2019 against the West Indies and that was also the sixth T20 International match of Dubey. Since that match, Team India has not lost a match since he was part of the Indian cricket team's playing eleven. During this period, India won 37 matches. However, Team India lost in Melbourne. This broke Shivam Dubey's unbeaten record of 37 matches. Dubey was also part of the T20 squads for the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 Asia Cup, winning the title.
Since December 11, 2019, Shivam Dubey has played 37 T20 matches for India, winning 33 of them and leaving three matches undecided. Their first T20I defeat came at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Furthermore, Jasprit Bumrah's record was also shattered in this match. With Bumrah in the playing eleven, India had been winning the previous 23 matches, but Bumrah's record was also broken in Melbourne along with Dubey.
After losing the toss in this match, the Indian team batted first and scored 125 runs in 18.4 overs, losing all their wickets. Abhishek Sharma scored 68 runs, while Harshit Rana made 35. Australia achieved the target of 126 runs by losing 6 wickets in the 14th over. Shivam Dubey could only manage 4 runs off 2 balls in this match. The Indian team will now play the third match of the series in Hobart on November 2nd, where Team India will aim for victory. On the same day, the Indian women's cricket team will face South Africa in the final match of the Women's World Cup 2025.
