Ahmedabad plane crash: Tata Sons and Tata Trust on Friday said that they have set up a trust of Rs 500 crore for the victims of the Air India plane crash. Tata Sons and Tata Trust have committed to contributing Rs 250 crore each to the trust for philanthropic work.

Tata Sons and Tata Trust on Friday announced that they have established a Rs 500 crore trust for the Air India plane crash victims. 'AI-171 Memorial and Welfare Trust' has been registered in Mumbai.
An Air India aircraft traveling from Ahmedabad to London crashed minutes after takeoff on June 12. 260 people were killed and more than 50 were injured.
Tata Sons and Tata Trusts have pledged to donate Rs 250 crore each to the Trust for charity. This also involves an ex-gratia of Rs 1 crore each to the bereaved families of the victims of the accident. In addition to this, the Trust will offer treatment to those seriously injured and assist in rehabilitating the BJ Medical College hostel that was destroyed in the accident.
The company said that the Trust will provide immediate and continuous assistance to the dependents / next of kin of the deceased, the injured, and all those directly or indirectly affected by the accident. The Trust will also provide assistance to mitigate any shock or distress to those who provide assistance after the accident, medical and disaster relief workers, social workers, and government employees.
The Trust will be managed and administered by a five-member Board of Trustees. The first two trustees appointed to the board are S. Padmanabhan and Siddharth Sharma, who have served in top positions in the Tata Group. Other trustees will be appointed soon.
