The Supreme Court on Wednesday sought a response from the ED on the bail plea filed by jailed MLA Abbas Ansari in the money laundering case. Abbas Ansari is the son of gangster-turned-politician and former MLA Mukhtar Ansari. Mukhtar Ansari died in jail a few months ago.
Justice MM Sundaresh and Justice Sandeep Mehta issued a notice to the ED and sought its response to Ansari's appeal challenging the Allahabad High Court's order rejecting his bail. The High Court rejected Ansari's bail plea on May 9, saying that the ED had presented evidence of money transactions in the case against him.
The High Court had also said in its order that money transactions by Ansari with two companies M/s Vikas Construction and M/s Aagaz are proved. The ED alleged that Ansari used these companies for money laundering. The ED had registered a case against Subhaspa MLA Ansari on the basis of three previous cases. Ansari was booked in this case on November 4, 2002. Ansari, an MLA from Mau, is currently in Kasganj jail.
