In the second game of the IPL 2026 tournament, the captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders team, Ajinkya Rahane, played well against the Mumbai Indians team and made a half-century. With this achievement, Rahane broke the record that was held for the past 10 years by the former captain of the KKR team, Gautam Gambhir.
Ajinkya Rahane opened the innings for the KKR team at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday and made 67 runs off 40 balls with three fours and five sixes. This is the highest score made by any captain of the KKR team against the MI team. With this achievement, Rahane broke the long-standing record held by the former captain of the KKR team, Gautam Gambhir.
Gambhir made 64 off 52 against the MI team in the IPL 2016 at the home ground of the KKR team. The score made by Gambhir is the third highest by any KKR captain against the MI team. Also in 2016, Gambhir scored 59 runs off 45 balls against MI at the Wankhede Stadium. Gambhir also holds the fourth-highest innings as KKR captain against the Mumbai Indians. Gambhir scored 57 runs against MI in Kolkata in 2015.
