South Africa Whitewash India 2-0; Gambhir Says ‘BCCI Will Decide My Future’
Gautam Gambhir on BCCI: The Indian cricket team suffered a crushing 408-run defeat against South Africa in the Guwahati Test match. South Africa thus won the two-match Test series against India 2-0. South Africa had defeated India by 30 runs in the Kolkata Test match.
The Indian cricket team lost to South Africa in the Guwahati Test match, facing a crushing defeat of 408 runs. This is India's biggest defeat in terms of runs in Test cricket. South Africa had set India a target of 549 runs to win, but the hosts were all out for 140 runs. Hence, South Africa won the two-match Test series against India 2-0. South Africa managed to defeat the Indian team at home after 25 years. It is the Indian team's second whitewash at home, as they had earlier faced a clean sweep against New Zealand. Following the Indian team's disappointing performance in the home Test match, questions have started popping up about head coach Gautam Gambhir.
Head coach Gautam Gambhir was also deeply disappointed by the Indian team's poor performance. Speaking to the media after the clean sweep against South Africa, he said, "The BCCI will decide my future. I am the person who got you results in England and won the Champions Trophy."
However, Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir acknowledged that everyone bears responsibility, and it starts with me. We have to play better. A decline from 95/1 to 122/7 is unacceptable. You can't blame anyone, or any shot; the fault lies with everyone. I have never blamed anyone personally, and I won't in the future.

Since Gautam Gambhir took over as head coach in July 2024, India has played a total of 18 Test matches. India has lost 10 of these matches. Gautam Gambhir has been a target of criticism for prioritizing all-rounders over specialist batsmen and bowlers in the Indian team.
