Artificial Intelligence has simplified our lives in numerous ways. Applications like ChatGPT and Google Gemini have not only sped up work but have also driven the demand for Artificial Intelligence in all fields to a remarkable extent. From coding to innovative learning, Artificial Intelligence has established its presence everywhere now, but whereas on the one side Artificial Intelligence is simplifying our work, on the other side, it may also negatively affect the creativity and mental power of human beings.

One recent study by Microsoft and Carnegie Mellon University has found that too much reliance on generative AI threatens to adversely affect our capacity to reason and comprehend. The study warns of a risk whereby if we don’t utilize technology in a balanced manner, it will undermine the capabilities of our brain, which is sharpened with experience.

According to research, when people start trusting AI too much, their thinking shifts from problem-solving and analysis to questioning the reliability of AI's answer. This change can weaken our decision-making and critical thinking abilities, which has a negative impact on mental agility.

A total of 319 people participated in this study, who use generative AI at least once every week. They were asked how they use AI such as writing emails, researching topics or editing data charts. It was also known whether they think independently during these tasks or completely depend on AI.

The report revealed that 36% of the participants admitted that they still exercise caution while working with AI and assess potential risks, while 64% of people completely trust AI without questioning it. The tendency to think is decreasing in such people, due to which their intellectual abilities are slowing down.

This study also indicated that excessive dependence on AI is making humans mentally dull and lazy. Where earlier people had to use their brains to think, analyze, and make decisions, now they have started looking for solutions directly with the help of AI, without thinking whether this answer is correct or not.
