Recruitment of office workers increased by 20 percent, slow growth in metros like Delhi-NCR
Employment: According to a report, recruitment of office workers has increased by 20 percent, while growth in metros like Delhi-NCR has slowed down. Small cities are becoming the main engine of employment growth.
Recruitment of office workers (white-collar) increased by 20 percent year-on-year in June 2025. This growth has mainly been driven by tier-2 cities (small cities), which are emerging as the primary engines of the country's employment growth.
According to the FoundIt Insights Tracker, Coimbatore led with a 26 percent increase in recruitment, followed by Nagpur and Nashik with 24 percent growth. Sectors such as IT, BFSI (banking, financial services, and insurance), manufacturing, and FMCG contributed to this expansion.
"This is the strongest growth in recent years, reflecting the growing importance of tier-2 cities in India's employment landscape. Job seekers now have access to a variety of opportunities near their homes," said Pranay Kale, chief revenue and growth officer, FoundIt.
The report indicates that hiring in tier-2 cities grew by 28 percent year-on-year. In contrast, major metros such as Delhi-NCR (5 percent), Chennai (18 percent), and Bengaluru (16 percent) experienced comparatively slower growth. Tier-2 cities saw an exceptional 53 percent increase in IT hiring, surpassing the national average of 30 percent.
