After the dead bodies of migratory birds Kurjan (Demoiselle Crane) were found in the Luneri Lake area of the district, the report from the National Institute of High-Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD) in Bhopal confirmed bird flu. This has alerted the administration and medical department.
First, on January 11, the dead bodies of 6 Kurjan birds were found near Luneri Lake. After this, on January 12, sick Kurja birds died and their dead bodies were sent to Bhopal for examination. Then on January 13, the report confirmed bird flu.
After this incident, the Luneri Pond area has been declared an infected hotspot area. The administration has taken strict steps to prevent the infection. Teams of officials from the Animal Husbandry Department, Forest Department, and Medical Department were formed. At the same time, special chemicals are being sprayed in the affected area to prevent infection. Also, a complete ban has been imposed on the movement of common people and animals in the hotspot area. Dead birds are being carefully picked up and disposed of safely.
