Punjab Kings achieved a commanding win over Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk on Friday night in IPL 2026. They dominated in all aspects, leaving five-time champions Chennai defeated once again this season. However, during the second half of the innings, the bowlers struggled, giving away many runs, but by then, the damage was already done. The batsmen then excelled in the chase, easily reaching the target of 210 runs with eight balls remaining. Despite the win, Punjab captain Shreyas Iyer repeated a mistake from the previous match, which will now have repercussions for all his teammates.

Iyer was fined ₹2.4 million for maintaining a slow over-rate, marking his team's second violation this season. The other players in the playing eleven and the 'Impact Player' were fined ₹6 million each or 25 percent of their match fees, whichever is less.

The IPL released a statement on Saturday morning confirming that Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer was fined for slow over-rate during the seventh match against Chennai Super Kings at MA Chidambaram Stadium. This was his team's second breach this season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, related to minimum over-rates.

Iyer received a ₹2.4 million fine. The other members of the playing XI, including the impact player, were fined ₹6 lakh each or 25 percent of their match fees. It's notable that Iyer was also fined ₹1.2 million for the same offense in Punjab Kings' first game.

After the match, Iyer credited openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh for providing a solid start while chasing a target of 210. They shared a 61-run partnership for the first wicket in 4.2 overs, setting a strong foundation for Punjab. Iyer explained that their aggressive start put Punjab well on track for the chase.

Iyer said, "The way we started today, I think it was a great start for us. Priyansh and Prabh did their job well at the beginning and paved the way for us to move forward." He also expressed pride in their recent batting form, which helped give them initial momentum.
