Neeraj Chopra injured before Paris Olympics 2024, withdraws from Ostrava Golden Spike

India's Olympic gold medalist javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra has been injured ahead of the Paris Olympics 2024. Due to injury, he has withdrawn from the upcoming Ostrava Golden Spike 2024 Athletics Meet, a World Athletics Continental Tour gold-level event. He suffered this injury during training two weeks ago. However, 26-year-old Neeraj will participate as a guest in this event starting from May 28.

The javelin throw competition at this event is a big experience, according to a statement from the organizers. Owing to an injury he sustained during training two weeks ago, Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra has informed the organizers that he will be attending as a guest but will not be competing in Ostrava. Julian Weber of Germany is going to compete in Neeraj's place. With a throw of 88.37 meters on Friday in Dessau, Germany, the European champion turned in his third-best performance of the year.

Home contender Jakob Wadlach will face a tough challenge from Weber in defending his title. Wadlech had won the event last year with a normal throw of 81.9m. The Indian thrower started this season at the Doha Diamond League and finished second with a throw of 88.36 meters. Earlier this month, Neeraj competed in the Federation Cup Senior Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar for the first time in three years and won the gold medal with a throw of 82.27 meters.
