Supreme Court reprimanded MCD for not solving the garbage problem, said- the condition of the capital is pathetic

The Supreme Court on Friday reprimanded the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for failing to dispose of solid waste. The apex court expressed grief and expressed concern over the current situation of the capital. The court reprimanded the officials and said that the situation regarding the disposal of solid waste in the national capital was pathetic.

The Supreme Court said that more than three thousand tons of garbage is not being disposed of daily in Delhi. There are more than 11 thousand tons of solid waste here every day. However, the disposal capacity is only 8,073 tons every day. Untreated solid waste can have a bad effect on people's health. This can lead to a public health emergency.'

A bench of Justices AS Oka and AG Masih said that the national capital generates more than 11,000 tonnes of solid waste every day. Whereas the capacity of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to dispose of waste every day is only 8,073 tonnes. Therefore, we agree that this can lead to a public health emergency. This is a sad situation when it comes to the implementation of Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016 in the capital city.
