Jagdeep Dhankhar became the 14th Vice President of the country

Jagdeep Dhankhar was sworn in as the 14th Vice President by President Draupadi Murmu on Thursday. He took the oath of office and secrecy during a program at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Many leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Home Minister Amit Shah were present on this occasion.
In the Vice Presidential election held on 6 August, Dhankhar defeated the opposition candidate Margaret Alva. Dhankhar got 528 votes out of 725, while Alva got 182 votes.
The Vice President of India is also the ex-officio Chairman of the Upper House, Rajya Sabha. That is, the responsibility of running the proceedings of the Rajya Sabha is also on him. Dhankhar's tenure will be till August 10, 2027.
Jagdeep Dhankhar, born in Jhunjhunu district on 18 May 1951 in a simple farmer family, had his early education in the village. Then his admission was done to Sainik School Chittorgarh. Dhankhar was selected for NDA (National Defense Academy), but he did not go. He graduated from Rajasthan University. After this, he studied LLB. Started advocacy by staying in Jaipur itself.
Jagdeep Dhankhar, 70, was appointed as the 28th Governor of Bengal by President Ram Nath Kovind on 30 July 2019. He was a Lok Sabha MP from Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan from 1989 to 1991. He was also a Union Minister in the government of VP Singh and Chandrashekhar from 1989 to 1991.
