Union Cabinet has approved the setting up of the National Center of Excellence for Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality (AVGC-XR). In this regard, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the Confederation of Indian Industry would represent industry bodies as partners with the Government of India. NCoE will be located in Mumbai.

The contribution of the AVGC-XR sector is indispensable in the walks of media and entertainment today, whether it be film production, OTT platforms, gaming, advertisement, or many other sectors related to health, education, and social sectors, among others. Along with fast-evolving technology and increased internet penetration across the country with reasonably priced data rates, the sector of AVGC-XR is poised to see fast growth on the global platform.

The AVGC-XR sector is rapidly growing. A National Centre of Excellence is being set up that will act as the premier institute to take its ecosystem forward in the country. NCOE will foster research and development together with specialized training and learning programs with a view to equipping trainees and professionals with the latest skills in state-of-the-art AVGC-XR technologies.

This will also bring together experts in the fields of computer science, engineering, design, and art who will be beneficial for the AVGC-XR sector. The National Centre of Excellence will always work extensively towards creating India's IP, both for domestic usage as well as for outreach to the world, helping, overall, in the creation of content based on India's rich historical and cultural heritage.
