More than 25 percent of foreign students studying in America are Indians, number increasing for the third consecutive year
US Embassies and Consulates issued a record-high number of student visas. Consular officers across India issued 95269 visas in FM and J categories. This is an increase of 18 percent compared to 2022 during the same time frame. India overtook China to become the largest source of international graduate students to the United States for the first time since 2009/10.

For the third consecutive year, a record number of Indian students traveled to the United States to pursue higher education. The US Embassy in India gave this information in a release.
According to the Open Doors Report (ODR), the number of international students from India to the United States increased by 35 percent, and as a result, the number reached an all-time high with 2,68,923 students in the academic year 2022-23. Of the more than one million foreign students studying in the United States, more than 25 percent are Indian students.
The embassy release said the release of the Open Doors report marks the beginning of International Education Week (IEW).
