Mercedes-Benz has announced the launch of the EQE SUV in India on 15 September. In the coming years, the company plans to launch more than one vehicle in the Indian market. It will be the third EV in Mercedes' portfolio after the EQB SUV and the EQS sedan. It is based on the brand's EVA (Electric Vehicle Architecture) platform and is also a sedan sibling to the EQE sedan globally.

Mercedes had earlier announced its plans to bring four new EVs to India by March 2024. This is the first of them, and it is likely to be followed by the EQS SUV.

The EQE SUV is available globally in multiple configurations and trim lines. All variants are equipped with a 90.6kWh battery pack, supporting 170kW DC fast charging speed.

The range starts with the entry-level EQE 350+, which gets a single-motor, rear-wheel drive set-up, producing 292hp and 565Nm of torque, with a WLTP-certified range of up to 590km. Above it is the EQE 350 4Matic, which generates 292 horsepower but has 765Nm of torque and up to 538km of WLTP range. The EQE 500 4Matic, which is the top model in the non-AMG trim, produces 408hp and 858Nm of peak torque. On the other hand, talking about the range, it gets a range of 521 km.

When launched, the Mercedes-Benz EQE will rival the Audi Q8 e-tron SUV (Rs 1.14 Cr - Rs 1.26 Cr) and BMW ix (Rs 1.21 Cr) in India. However, it remains to be seen whether Mercedes imports the EQE SUV to India, or assembles it locally which will reveal its pricing. While the company currently assembles the EQS 580 locally, the EQS 53 4Matic and EQB SUVs are imported through CBUs.
