In May, Indian airlines flew 15.3 million domestic travelers, which is 11% higher than the figure recorded in April, that is, 13.8 million domestic travelers. The government has made official data public on Tuesday, which shows that domestic air traffic witnessed growth of 9.49% compared to May 2025. It is reported in May DGCA report. From January to May 2026, domestic airlines transported 72.94 million passengers compared to 71.57 million during the same period last year. Thus, annual growth of 1.91% and monthly growth of 9.49% is witnessed.

The market share of IndiGo fell to 64.9% in May. The market share of Air India Group increased to 25.6%. The market share of Akasa Air remained constant at 5.8%. The market share of SpiceJet dropped to 2.5%. The above information indicates airline performance and preference of passengers.

Regarding OTP (on time performance) in May, IndiGo came out first among 10 major airports with 82.8% OTP. Akasa Air secured the second position with 78.3% OTP. Air India Group had 74.5% OTP while Alliance Air had 70.5% OTP, and SpiceJet had 26.5% OTP.

The overall cancellation rate of scheduled domestic airlines in May was 0.55%. According to the DGCA report, 63,723 passengers were affected by flight cancellations. Airlines spent Rs 70.32 lakh on compensation and amenities. More than 1.77 lakh passengers were affected by flight delays. Airlines spent more than Rs 4.24 crore on this item. 900 passengers were prevented from flying this month. Carriers paid Rs 98.60 lakh on compensation and amenities.
